China and Canada

Tomorrow we will be having 2 Chinese girls come into our school for an exchange program. I am very excited to learn about their culture and also to teach them what our culture is like. I'm also excited because I might find another program to help out like I did with World Vision. I'm actually looking into a career that has to do with charities and traveling to countries to help.

Did you know.....

Religion:

China has the religions, Dacist, Buddhist, Christian 3%--4% and Muslim 1% 2% where as Canada has many more but Christians 4.4% and Muslim 1.9%. I wonder why we dont have more muslim religion in Canada.

Net migration rate:

China's net migration rate is -0.03 migrations/ 1000 where as Canada's migration rate is 5.65/ 1000. I wonder why Canada has more Mirgrates then China? Aren't they both equally good countries?

Population:

China has a population of 1,336,718,015 where as Canada has a 34,030,589 population. I wonder why their population is increasing when they have a small country but Canada has so much more land and we're still less.

Shaken question

Do you think that Eric Walters will write another book like this but about the earthquake in japan? what do you think it would be like if he did?

Faces of Tomorrow

well sadly ( YAAYYY) we finished our history unit for the rest of the year. Our first job that miss Pollock gave us was too find out the definition for the word, globalization but we also have to put it in our own words.

 Part A:  Definition

globalization-  It means working together to make a better world.

Part B:  How to make an average face.

The website Miss Pollock gave us showed a number of photos of men and women piled to make a face that wasn't actually a real person but the average person in a certain place. I chose Sydney, Australia and Florence, Italy. And saw the comparison. Miss Pollock also asked us a question.

In real life, how do facial identities change over generations?

I think they change by face structure, they'll get skinnier and the hair will change. I also think that they'll still look a bit the same because it hasn't really changed.

Part C:  What did you notice.

I noticed that when I compared places the males face was longer then the females.

I also noticed that most of the photos look like they could be siblings.

Another thing I noticed was that the background has the colours blue pink yellow and black by the left hand side. I'm not sure why but it does.

Part D:  Face of tomorrow.

This is the face I made, and i think this is the face of tomorrow.

I think this is the face of tomorrow because already girls today are worrying about face structure and make-up and other things, so the structure of the future face will be round but still chiseled. I also think this will be the face of tomorrow because there's alot of brunettes in the world and also I'm seeing a lot more red heads too (like me) so i think it will be a combination of them both to become almost an auburn colour. I also think that the face of tomorrow will be pretty because already girls and guys are worrying about what they look like and it's already had such an impact on us so I think it will progress even more.

Part E:  Who we are.

I think if my family combined our faces to make one face it would look Irish because my father had red hair and he has a shaggy beard and with my red hair and my sister's and mother's brown hair it would make a light auburn/red hair. It would also be a Caucasian girl because my family is Caucasian and theres only one male in my family and the rest is female.

History Fair 4,3,2,1.

We just finished our history fair projects and presented them to 3 judges. My partner was Jumanh. We did or project on powwows. Our teachers Miss Pollock decided to get us to do a 4,3,2,1.

4. The four most interesting things that you learned about your topic in your researching.

We learnt that a lot of the powwows have traditional dances like the hoop dance.

We also learnt that native people and non native people can come to watch the powwows.

I learnt from our friend Josh who we interviewed, has had the tradition of going to powwows passed on from his mom. And we decided to elaborate on that and found out that powwows are passed on from generation to generation.

I also learnt that a raven feather means mom.

3.Three things that you felt proud of on the day of the Fair.
I felt proud that me and Jumanh looked like we knew what we were doing because, we tried to get peoples attention and our speech was well thought out.

I was proud of our poster because it was very noticeable because of the boot we had and the colours.

I also thought of asking the audience some questions to see if they really were paying attention which is another thing I'm proud of.

2. Two specific researching or presentation techniques that were helpful to make your project so wonderful.
We had to know what we wanted to research. So ask questions you don't know the answer to and just research from there.

We also used books just to learn more about powwows.

1.One suggestion to make the History Fair even better in the future.

I think it was already awesome but maybe we should have a contest like the best looking costume or best looking poster, that kind of stuff.

Thanks Miss Pollock for going insane to get the history fair together! :)
